Overview
Eighteen days tracing the cultural and artistic heartlands of northern and southwestern China, from Beijing's imperial core to the Buddhist grottoes of Luoyang and the temples of Xi'an. You travel the Silk Road legacy through the Longmen Grottoes and the Sui-Tang Mingtang and Tiantang complex, watch the martial-arts tradition at Shaolin Temple, and meet the giant pandas of Chengdu before sailing the Yangtze gateway at Chongqing. The final stretch brings Shanghai's riverfront and a day among Suzhou's gardens. Paced at two to three sights per day, this suits travellers drawn to heritage, craft and religion over fast sightseeing.
