Day 2

Huangshan Tour | Yellow Mountain

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel lobby. You will have a full day to explore Yellow Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous and beautiful mountain in China. Yellow Mountain is well known for its “Five Natural Wonders” - peculiarly-shaped granite peaks, imaginatively-named pine trees, winter snow, sea of clouds and hot springs.

Drive about 80 kilometers (about 1.5 hours) from Huangshan city to the mountain area and then transfer by sightseeing bus from the mountain foot to Yungu Temple. From here, take a cable car up to the North Sea Scenic Area where you can appreciate precipitous peaks and stunning scenery. Take a walk to majestic Begin-to-Believe Peak where has lots of odd-shaped pine trees standing on the peaks and then hike about another 40 minutes to Cloud Dispelling Pavilion, an ideal point for enjoying the scenery of West Sea Scenic Area. As the clouds flow through in the wind, tier upon tier of mountains appear and disappear, looking like numerous islands on a boundless sea. Move your steps to visit Flying-over Rock, a 12-meter standing stone tilting slightly on a flat rock platform. The rock has got its name for it looks like a rock that has just fallen from the sky. Next, hike to Bright Summit which is the second highest peak of Yellow Mountain. Last, return to your hotel on the mountain and have a good rest.

Regarded as the best example of typical Hui-style architecture, Hongcun is the ancient village in Chinese painting, listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. The overall layout, landscape, architectural form, decoration, the integration of houses with comprehensive water systems...all are unique. This village is a heaven to photograph lovers. Exploring this ancient village, you are recommended to see the South Lake, Crescent-shaped Moon Pond, Chengzhi Hall, South Lake Academy, etc.

Later, drive back to Huangshan city and continue to visit Tunxi Ancient Street in this afternoon. Tunxi Ancient Street is the best preserved old street in China in the style of the Southern Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. This 4-day Huangshan tour with Booking in China was perfectly structured. Day 1 we landed in Tunxi and strolled the old street with its flagstone paths and Ming-style shopfronts — a gentle start. Day 2 the guide handed out trekking poles, took us up the Cloud Valley cable car with pre-booked tickets, and we hiked past real pavilions with benches and clean public toilets. With his whisper headset, I heard every legend of the pines. The pacing across all four days was just flawless.

The overnight on Day 2 was the highlight of this 4-day trip. We stayed at the Beihai Hotel on the summit, which had simple warm rooms with electric blankets, thermos-heated water, and thick quilted jackets to borrow — all real. Before dawn on Day 3, the guide knocked on our doors and led us along solar-lit trails with handrails to a quiet viewpoint. Wrapped in those jackets, watching the sea of clouds ignite, I felt the planning was genuinely thoughtful from start to finish.

Day 3’s West Sea Grand Canyon hike was the thrill of this 4-day adventure. The trail has solid stone steps, strong wire-mesh guardrails, and warning signs in English at steep parts — no fiction. Our guide gave everyone cotton gloves for the railings and set a slow rhythm. Along the route were real wooden pavilions with shaded benches and small kiosks selling bottled water and hot tea. Down on Day 4, our legs were tired but our spirits high, thanks to proper support all four days.

As a solo female on a 4-day tour, I felt completely secure from Day 1. The guide always kept the group together and frequently reminded us about footing on damp steps. On Day 3 he timed our visit to the Greeting Pine perfectly — not too crowded — and pointed out the best selfie spots. Public toilets along the way were squat-style but had separate cubicles and running water for handwashing. By Day 4, I left with a phone full of photos and a real sense of achievement.

What wrapped up this 4-day journey beautifully was the descent on Day 4. After the morning trek to Bright Summit, the guide timed our Yuping cable car ride perfectly — we went down just before the afternoon crowd, and a comfortable coach was already waiting at the parking lot. He even handed out pre-packed refreshing towels and mineral water. None of this is luxury; it’s simply the team using what’s actually there with great thoughtfulness. Huangshan’s beauty did the rest across four unforgettable days.
