Day 2

Xian City Tour | Terracotta Warriors, Ancient Wall, Bell Tower & Drum Tower

After breakfast, you will take a 40km drive (about 1 hour) to visit the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Army, one of the "Eighth Wonders of the World". The Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Army Museum is a site museum built on the original location of the terracotta pits. It is also China's largest ancient military museum. With the vivid explanation of a professional guide, you will visit the No.1, No.2 and No.3 Terracotta Pits in sequence. You will learn about the historical background and production craftsmanship of the terracotta warriors, as well as the little-known stories behind these thousand-year-old pottery figurines buried in the long river of history.

In the afternoon, head to the time-honored Xi'an Ancient Wall. First built in the Ming Dynasty, it is also known as the Xi'an Ming City Wall. It is one of the largest and best-preserved ancient city walls existing in China. You can climb the city wall and walk on the historic blue bricks to feel its charm. You can also tour by bicycle to admire the wonderful scenery composed of the ancient city wall and modern urban landscapes.

In addition, near the Xi'an Ancient Wall, you can also visit the stunning Bell Tower and Drum Tower. First constructed during the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty, they have a history of about 600 years. The two buildings echo each other from afar, presenting a magnificent momentum. When night falls, the lights of the Bell Tower and Drum Tower are turned on simultaneously, creating a spectacular view.

Day 3

Departure from Xian | Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and Muslim Quarter. Hotel Check-out and Airport See-off

This morning, you will go to visit the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, one of Xi'an's most recognizable landmarks and symbol of the magnificence of the Tang Dynasty. This seven-story pagoda standing in the tranquil Da Ci'en Temple is one of China's best examples of a Tang-style pagoda (squarish rather than round). It was completed in AD 652 to house Buddhist sutras brought back from India by the monk Xuan Zang. His travels inspired one of the best-known works of Chinese literature, Journey to the West. Later, you will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant and bustling Muslim Quarter (Muslim Street). This historic quarter, situated just behind the Drum Tower about 430 meters west of the Bell Tower in downtown Xian, has been around for over 1,000 years.

It is time to end your 3day Xian tour. You will have some time in Xian and explore more on your own till your guide escorts you to the airport/train station for your flight or high speed train to your next destination.

Trip of a lifetime

We travelled as a retired couple and had the most wonderful time. Emma read our energy perfectly and adjusted the days to suit us. We loved the Terracotta Warriors, and our guide knew exactly when to go to beat the crowds. They handled all the tickets and logistics so we could just enjoy ourselves.

Great trip overall

A really good trip overall, with just a couple of small things to mention. Highlights for us included the Terracotta Warriors and a hand-pulled noodle lunch. The weather was not kind to us, though the team adapted brilliantly. Our guide Sophie was outstanding — patient, funny and incredibly knowledgeable.

Very good with small caveats

We had a lovely time and would mostly recommend it. The kids' favourite was the Terracotta Warriors, while we adored cycling the ancient city wall. The only small niggle was one slightly dated hotel, but it did not spoil anything.

Great trip overall

Very enjoyable 3 days — not quite perfect, but close. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the buzzing Muslim Quarter were the absolute highlights for us. The only small niggle was one slightly dated hotel, but it did not spoil anything. Nina spoke excellent English and answered our endless questions with a smile.
